The Equity and Title IX Office addresses issues of unlawful discrimination and harassment on the basis of race, national origin, ethnicity, sex, pregnancy, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, and other individual characteristics protected by federal and state law. Unlawful discrimination and harassment encompass racial harassment, sexual and gender-based harassment, and sexual misconduct.

We engage in this mission with our students, post-docs, staff, and faculty primarily through consultation, preventative outreach, and collaborative problem-solving.

We are the office to which to report any of these types of concerns. You do not have to report to anyone else. We will coordinate our response, as needed, with other Caltech resources, including the Center for Inclusion and Diversity, the Chief Diversity Officer, Caltech Security, and the appropriate deans.

Please do not overthink how to categorize your concern or whether it even qualifies for any category of misconduct.  If you feel wronged or uncomfortable, we can discuss with you options for improving your workplace and social climate.  We have found it productive to address climate concerns before they fester into larger issues and compromise relationships.
